The Ladoga Skerries National Park with a total of 122 000 ha on the northern and north-western coast of Lake Ladoga was established by the Russian Federation Government Ordinance #1684 of December 28, 2017.
The aim of the national park designation is to conserve the unique natural ecosystems of the Lake Ladoga skerries region, which have no analogues in Russia or Europe. A major contribution to the design and promotion of the Ladoga Skerries NP concept was made by researchers from KarRC RAS.
