Within these fields, the entrants choose among 37 research degrees to pursue. Currently, the field with the biggest number of doctoral students at KarRC RAS is Biological Sciences: biochemists, botanists, plant physiologists, ecologists, and others.

The training is given by highly qualified professors, and the research of doctoral students is supervised by experienced scientists - Doctors of Sciences, Corresponding Academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a RAS Full Academician. New teaching formats and modern technologies are used in the learning process.
- The quality of doctoral students' training is of paramount importance: the future of our science largely depends on it. And we are happy that year after year we get very motivated university alumni. Many of those admitted in 2022 have just graduated from the university, but there are also many who already have work experience in one field or another," said Olga Koshman, Head of the Doctoral Studies Department at KarRC RAS.
For instance, first-year doctoral student Ksenia Bogacheva is Assistant Director of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature, and History of the Karelian Research Center RAS. She graduated from the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences of the Petrozavodsk State University two years ago. Ksenia's research focuses on twinning relationships and people's diplomacy in Karelia in the second half of the 20th century.

– I study the positive experience of interactions between people who belonged to different cultures but had a genuine desire to talk to each other, to help and to create, - said Ksenia.
As the doctoral student recalls, she chose to pursue science as her profession back in 2010, as a schoolgirl, when she participated in a regional conference on local history.
– The desire to be part of the activities of the people whose scientific work I admire has been imprinted deep in my mind ever since. In my heart I feel that I'm in the right place when studying and doing science. Naturally, what I expect from the studies is new knowledge, the chance to interact with colleagues who are engaged in other scientific spheres. Personally, I think it is important to popularize science, to share the experience from the past, preserved on the pages of archival documents, newspapers, recorded in recollections of eyewitnesses, - added Ksenia Bogacheva.
