Experts in soil science gather at KarRC RAS to discuss topical issues
Over a hundred specialists from around Russia as well as from Belarus and Uzbekistan participate in the conference «Topical Issues of the Theory and Practice of Forest Soil Science» taking place at KarRC RAS on September 18–22. Experts discuss the role of soils in climate regulation, problems of anthropogenic transformation of forest soils, topics of land resources and soil assessment, their importance in the system of sustainable forest management and other issues.

Karelia hosts the first regional conference on scientific cooperation of BRICS countries
The International conference “Regional cooperation within BRICS: sustainable nature management – environment, education, tourism” started working at KarRC RAS. This forum is designed to promote cooperation at the regional level in this interstate alliance. The conference participants are scientists, representatives of authorities, and experts from BRICS counties.

Petrozavodsk to host the first regional conference on scientific cooperation between BRICS countries

Karelian scientists study lakes that contain fresh as well as saline water at the same time
Meromictic reservoirs are a new research object for scientists at the Karelian Research Center RAS. These lakes are unusual: their lower water layer is saline, while the top column is fresh water. The two parts do not intermix. Specialists use hydrophysical methods to study the interface between the layers, while the paleogeographic approach helps understand the formation history of such reservoirs.

The 7th International Young Scientists Conference "Water Resources: Research and Management" started at KarRC RAS. Karelian scientists took part in an international field school on greenhouse gas monitoring in Yakutia
Karelian scientists took part in the International Summer Field School "Greenhouse Gases and Climate: Monitoring, Manipulation, Modeling, and Management" in Yakutia. Leading specialists from Russia, Japan, Taiwan, China, and the USA talked about the results of studying the greenhouse gas problem in the context of natural environment and climate change. Staff of the Forest Research Institute KarRC RAS shared their experience of research in mid-boreal forests.
