Ornithologists for the first time use 3D technology to study bird behavior and breeding in the Artic
Karelian scientists have applied a new 3D technique to study breeding areas of songbirds. Researchers used 3D analysis to model spaces inhabited by pairs of Willow Warblers. This study can help learn more about the behavior of birds and their adaptations to the habitat. This is especially important in a changing environment, where birds' usual habitats are shrinking under human impact.

Experts to discuss development prospects of border regions at conference in KarRC RAS
International Conference “Prospects of Socio-economic Development of Border Regions” opened on October 4th at the Karelian Research Centre RAS. Its participants are scientists from regions of the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Ural, Southern and Far Eastern Federal Districts of Russia, Belarus, as well as representatives of the industrial sector and authorities of the republic.
International Conference “Prospects of Socio-economic Development of Border Regions” opened on October 4th at the Karelian Research Centre RAS. Karelian researchers looking for traces of ancient earthquakes in lake bottom sediments
Seismic events that took place in the territory of our republic and the Kola Peninsula 12 millennia ago are proxied by lacustrine sediments. Geophysical methods help detect traces of ancient earthquakes. Research in the field of paleoseismology has practical applications as well. To predict future earthquakes, it is important to understand the patterns of their recurrence in the past. This was the topic of the presentation by Leading Researcher at the Institute of Geology KarRC RAS Pavel Ryazantsev at KarRC RAS Learned Council meeting on September 28th.
