A study by hydrobiologists to prevent the development of dangerous anoxic zones in Lake Onego
The formation of anoxic zones deep in the lake is a dangerous phenomenon. It it fraught with secondary, largely uncontrollable, water pollution, which can cause a degradation of the reservoir, essentially turning it into a swamp. The emergence of such critical zones can be predicted by monitoring the spring development of phytoplankton and bacterial activity. To sample them, hydrobiologists from the Northern Water Problems Institute KarRC RAS undertook a ten-day expedition to Lake Onego.
