Prospecting and identification of areas promising for dimension stone quarring is a multi-stage procedure. The requirements of the modern building materials market for the qualitative and quantitative properties of dimension stone contribute to the improvement of methods for assessing the natural fracturing of territories at different scale levels even at the stage of prospecting. In this regard, in modern conditions, to search for new objects that meet modern market requirements, the most effective are the statistical and mining-geometrical methods with their subsequent processing.
During the short field seasons of 2018-2019 years as part of the study of structural heterogeneities and fractures orientation systems in some areas represented by Precambrian rocks of the Lakhdenpohsky Ludikovian-Kalevian metamorphic complex along the Priozersk-Sortavala road with a total length of more than 20 km, a digital collection of outcrops is collected.
The area along the road where bedrock is well opened during road construction works in the roadway is ideal from the point of view of photogrammetric survey.
For processing materials, an approach based on the use of photogrammetry technology to create digital models of outcrops was used (DOM - Digital Outcrop Model). The low requirements of photogrammetry technology to equipment, its cost allows us to consider this method of describing outcrops very promising when conducting field geological work, which allows you to quickly and efficiently generate a digital terrain model of almost any resolution.
An important feature of this approach is to increase safety when working on vertical and inaccessible sections of outcrops of considerable height. At the same time, the information content of such innovations is increased, which makes it possible to reuse the resulting model in office work for various purposes.
