The readers are informed about the actions taken in Karelia to perpetuate the memory of a prominent scholar, statesman and patriot of our country Konstantin I. Arsenyev. Petrozavodsk is where he started his career in the science of statistics. This is where he prepared the first treatise on the history of Olonets plants. It is here, in Petrozavodsk, in the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, that he now rests in peace. The life and work of Arsenyev in the Olonets Governorate had for many years remained obscure. There were no memorial signs apart from a plaque on his tomb in the cathedral. Museums of Karelia also contained no materials regarding this person – one of the province’s most celebrated figures. In the late 20th – early 21st centuries, local lore explorers, educationists and researchers undertook to mend the situation. Since 1995, regular conferences honoring the memory of K. I. Arsenyev (Arsenyev’s Readings) have been held, following the initiative of the Institute of Economics of the Karelian Research Centre RAS. In 2015, a street in Petrozavodsk was named after Academician Arsenyev. In 2025–2026, the Russian Geographical Society allocated a grant to support the initiative of the Northern Water Problems Institute KarRC RAS to create a mobile exhibition devoted to K. I. Arsenyev. The main objective of the effort is to familiarize specialists, local lore enthusiasts, citizens, and tourists with the life history and works of this outstanding man. The exhibition’s ten stands illustrate Arsenyev’s activities as a scholarly geographer, economist, historian, academician, statesman, and citizen. In addition to Karelia, the exhibition will be displayed in his native Chukhloma, as well as in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and other Russian cities.
