The problems concerning organization of a new museum in Petrozavodsk are examined in the article. This museum can obtain the recognition in the situation of increase of level and quality of the educational activity by means of interpretation of various sides of the town's history. The author proposes the active participation of inhabitants in the process of forming the funds of the new museum including grantors of private collection.
