Long-term research have been conducted on the rivers of Karelia and Kola Peninsula to determine the structure and quantity (number and biomass) of rivers bottom communities. The average number was 16,4+1,8 thous.ind./m2 in Kola peninsula rivers; 4,3+0,9 thous.ind./m2 in rivers of Karelian White See coast; 9,8+3,3 thous.ind./m2 in Onega lake rivers. Biomass was 7,9+0,6; 5,5+1,1 and 13,3+4,7 g/m2 correspondingly. Trophic resources for salmonids were estimated as medium.
