Unique mineral raw material — shungite. Is used in metal processing, chemical industry, medicine. The gossip about its magical effects draws the gullible and (as a consequence) also charlatans. Myths about shungite are dispelled for the readers of the “Respublika” portal by Dr. of Geology and Mineralogy at Karelian Research Centre RAS Vladimir Kovalevsky.
On September 22 researcher from the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History Irina Summanen together with colleagues from the Institute of Geology Svetlana Chazhengina and Sergey Svetov gave a lecture at the Karelian Research Centre RAS Presidium meeting about the “Integration of archaeological and mineralogical-geochemical methods: tradition and innovations in the studies of Medieval Karelian ceramic industry”.
